Returning after the sold-out season of Swan Lake (Swan Lake), The National Ballet of Georgia will bring ballet’s most beloved Christmas tradition to the Sands Theater stage this November, in a production that will be treasured and admired by families for generations.
The scene opens on Christmas Eve, little girl Clara is given an exquisitely crafted nutcracker doll. As night falls, her world transforms into a magical space – the Christmas tree towers, toy soldiers suddenly come to life, and a brave battle against the Mouse King rages on. Snowflakes rotated across the catwalk, taking Clara and the Nutcracker Prince into the magical winter kingdom.
Their journey continues to lead to the Candy Kingdom, where the Cotton Candy Fairy (Sugar Plum Fairy) splendidly presided over a banquet honoring the art of classical ballet. Each unfolding scene is accompanied by Tchaikovsky’s timeless melodies – an ensemble that has become an inseparable part of the holiday season.
With a touring force of up to 60 dancers and widely recognized as one of the top 10 classical dance troupes in the world, the National Dance Company of Georgia offers a grand scale of production, combining virtuosic classical technique, traditional staging styles and ecstatic dance moves.
