History of golf and golf attire

Golf was born around the 15th century in Scotland. At that time, golf was quite a popular sport, it was for everyone. Poor Scots play golf on public lands. At that time, golf was a rather chaotic pastime.

In 1744, the first golf club was born. By 1914, there were 1801 clubs established in the UK. This was also the period when this subject spread throughout the world.

Later, many golf courses began to set stricter regulations on clothing as well as the equipment needed to play golf such as clubs, balls, golf bags, gloves…

From then on, golf gradually became considered an “expensive” sport for rich people.

Golf has improved over the years along with developments in golf clubs and balls. Players’ swings have improved thanks to training methods; good players can hit the ball up to 400 yards (equivalent to 365.76m).

However, it is not only equipment and training methods that create that change. Golfers’ attire is also an important factor. In the 1920s, wealthy golfers often distinguished themselves from other golfers with their outfits. Players often wear golf breeches with checkered patterns, high socks, a shirt and tie. In Scotland, you often have to check the weather before going out. If it’s a cold and windy day, golfers will wear a cardigan or a Norfolk jacket.

Of course you can see that this outfit does not allow the player to move freely and limits the swing. Golf clothing began to change from the 1930s to the 1940s. However, in the 1950s there was a notable change when a player named Arnold Palmer with the nickname “The King” changed the way people dressed to play golf.

The importance of golf attire

Professional golfer Arnold Palmer in the 1950s became a symbol of golf fashion. He was the first person to wear a tennis shirt in bright colors while playing golf. His golf pants were always as colorful as his shirts and at this time golfers became athletic young men, they had their own fans and were a sports icon in their own way.

Meanwhile, another professional golfer, Gary Player, is also one of the golfers who attracts attention thanks to his fashion style. He always goes on the field wearing black clothes. It was a great way for him to become a sports figure known as “The Black Knight”. Many other players did the same and gained special identities in this sport. This shows that the uses of costumes have now expanded.

Gary Player and his unique fashion style

There are many reasons why golf attire is important, not just for appearance but also for a player’s performance. The relationship between clothing and performance is something that has been recognized by famous golfers, coaches and clothing designers.

If you dress well, you will play well!

“You’re as good as what you wear – You play as great as the outfit you’re wearing”, This is a saying that many years ago was used by many people and thought it was completely true when a player dressed well on the field. There is a huge connection between what you wear and how you play. Therefore, it is completely worth investing in your style, investing in comfortable, neat clothes.

Comfortable, fashionable and highly practical

A round of golf involving several players usually lasts about 5 hours, so a golf outfit must always ensure two things: compliance with the rules as well as ensuring comfort for the wearer. Golf clubs and golf courses will often have dress codes for players when playing.

However, you should not lose your comfort because of those regulations. To enjoy an enjoyable experience while playing, make sure your outfit does not limit your movements or movements when making shots. Please note that there are usually no rules regarding outfit colors, you can wear striking colors as long as they are harmoniously combined with each other.

Prepare thoughtful outfits for the match

Poor preparation can easily ruin your golf session. Golf is an outdoor sport, so you always need to check the weather to choose the right outfit to go out. Always remember, before going out, check the weather forecast.

Players often don’t realize the importance of weather-appropriate clothing until they are in the middle of the field and a heavy rain and strong wind blows without an umbrella or jacket. Invest in a set of waterproof clothes, fold them up and put them in your golf bag. If necessary, bring an extra sweater or jacket to keep from getting cold in the Northern winter climate.
