SoftBank plans to issue record retail bonds with a total value of 6.3 billion USD

SoftBank Group, an investment group headquartered in Japan, plans to raise a record 1 trillion yen ($6.3 billion) from individual investors in Japan, which would be the largest retail corporate bond issuance ever by a Japanese company.

It is expected that the seven-year bond issuance price will be announced on September 4.

The company said the bonds will have an expected yield of 4.3% to 4.9%.

This will be the third retail bond issuance this year, after raising 418 billion yen ($2.63 billion) in April and 260 billion yen ($1.63 billion) in June.

SoftBank has committed to investing more than $60 billion in OpenAI, the company behind ChatGPT, and said the capital raising will support those commitments.

The company is also accelerating investments in data centers to expand computing capacity amid demand from OpenAI and other large-scale cloud computing service providers.

The bond issuance comes alongside other capital-raising efforts, including a $10 billion margin loan secured by SoftBank’s stake in OpenAI.

SoftBank báo cáo lợi nhuận ròng đạt 1,8 nghìn tỷ yên (11,3 tỷ đô la Mỹ) trong quý kết thúc ngày 31 tháng 3. Ngày 16 tháng 7, S&P Global Ratings đã điều chỉnh triển vọng của công ty từ tiêu cực sang ổn định, đồng thời giữ nguyên xếp hạng BB+.
