The colors of the 70s are recreated in Piaget’s latest jewelry collection

The Piaget brand officially launched Colors of Extraleganza – a collection of 65 pieces that complete the final chapter in the company’s high jewelry trilogy. This masterpiece follows the Essence of Extraleganza collection (launched on the occasion of the fashion house’s 150th anniversary in 2024) and the Shapes of Extraleganza collection last year. This event concludes a sublime three-year journey that the Swiss fashion house used to recreate the restless creative spirit of the 1960s and 1970s, the brand’s golden era.

The new collection of 65 masterpieces is a bold experiment with sharp color textures, and is the final chapter that closes the iconic Extraleganza trilogy.

In a surprising turn, this year’s gemstone collection draws deep inspiration from Piaget’s own timepieces. Introduced in 1957, the ultra-thin 9P caliber (9P caliber) movement is renowned for its characteristic slender construction. It was this thin and light movement that freed up space on the dial, allowing the fashion house to begin setting it with hard stones and precious stones in an extremely rich range of colors.

“Color plays an integral role in Piaget’s history and heritage. Now, with Colors of Extraleganza, we have discovered a new dimension of color, perfectly blended with Piaget’s aesthetic codes: boldness (extravagance) and elegance (elegance).” – Ms. Stéphanie Sivrière, Artistic Director of Piaget shared.

Ms. Sivrière added that her interest lies not in the beauty of each individual stone, but in the power of their colors when resonating in different combinations.

Blue Illusions and Flamboyant Links: Wonders of craftsmanship

The clearest statement of this design philosophy is the necklace Blue Illusions – the central artifact of the entire collection and is the result of nearly 900 hours of meticulous craftsmanship. The piece juxtaposes an 8.52-carat cushion-cut Madagascar sapphire next to the lagoon-blue hue of a 3.30-carat Paraíba tourmaline, alongside a 13.98-carat unique black opal that radiates streaks of blue and green light that help connect the two stones together. Custom-cut sapphire stones and baguette-shaped tourmalines surround the pendant to scatter radiant light across the wearer’s neckline. Accompanying the necklace are two rings – one of which is crafted around a smooth Sri Lankan sapphire weighing nearly 5 carats – and two pairs of earrings to complete the ensemble.

Artifact Flamboyant Links Recreating the long chain watch (sautoir watch) first introduced by Piaget in 1969 is part of the collection 21st Century Collection. Here, rose gold links are surrounded by carefully selected tiger eye stones, marking the first time since the 1970s that the fashion house has combined gold links with a decorative stone.

This sautoir watch is studded with a 4.13-carat Mandarin orange garnet and can be converted into a choker or a wristwatch. Included is a ring with a Mandarin garnet weighing 6.42 carats, and earrings studded with a pair of matching garnets weighing 3.04 carats each.

Another special highlight is Gold Swirl – a contemporary perspective that takes the curves of the 1970s design language as a starting point. The jewelry set’s cuff bracelet is a mix of rose gold and baguette-cut blue-green tourmaline stones.

Meanwhile, the necklace is dotted with cabochon-shaped orange fire opals and indicolite tourmaline stones, cleverly concealing the diamond pave watch dial right in the center.

All 65 works in the collection were crafted at art workshops Ateliers de l’Extraordinaire of Piaget are all unique versions in the world.
