Nvidia announced that it will provide artificial intelligence hardware and software to Toyota Motor Corp., Japan’s largest automaker, for smart city projects, traffic intelligence systems and auto factories.
This agreement expands a partnership that began in 2017 on automated driving technology and now includes Toyota’s Woven City project in Japan.
Toyota plans to use the Nvidia platform at its factory in Shizuoka Prefecture to build digital copies of vehicle assembly lines and support the development of robotics and automotive software.
Toyota describes Woven City as a test track for the transportation industry.
In April 2026, Toyota and Woven by Toyota said the website would launch in September 2025 with systems that analyze data from cameras, vehicles, traffic signals and user input to coordinate safety across the city.
The partnership was further strengthened in January 2025, when Toyota committed to building the next generation of vehicles on the Drive AGX Orin platform and Nvidia’s DriveOS operating system.
The deal also expands Nvidia’s efforts in industrial artificial intelligence, including software to deploy robots.
Toyota’s factory plans also reflect the industry’s shift toward using a digital twin model in auto manufacturing.
