The premium handcrafted car company from the UK has just announced that it will bring this legendary car model to the US market. Morgan Replaced the 6-cylinder in-line engine with a 4-cylinder in-line to meet US circulation standards.
The biggest difference between the European standard version and the new version for the US market is under the hood. The 3.0L B58 6-cylinder turbocharged engine has been replaced by the 2.0L B56 (B46) twin-turbocharged 4-cylinder in-line engine that has been certified in the US by the German automaker. The B46 engine produces 252 horsepower and 350 Nm (258 ft-lbs) of torque, all of which is transmitted to the rear axle via an 8-speed ZF automatic transmission.
The Supersport version for the US market has a different engine block than its European cousin, but the handcrafted exterior appearance remains basically the same. The nostalgic design language is one of the core values that make Morgan cars famous.
Supersport has an extended hood, classic round headlights and soft curving wheel arches, all combined to give the appearance of a pre-war sports car. The two-door model continues to offer two convertible top options: a removable carbon fiber composite hardtop or a foldable mohair soft top. The two-seat cabin space has not changed, although the US version has a much more eye-catching gear lever on the center console.
Morgan has now begun taking orders for the US-spec Supersport version. Prices start at 119,995 USD, about 20,000 USD lower than the cost of owning this sports car in its home country of England.
