Decoding lighting scenarios in 5-star hotels & resorts (Part 1)

At luxury hotels and resorts, light not only brings “eye-catching”, sparkling and seductive beauty. Unique lighting needs to combine good scenarios, like lighting arrangements for the stage of a play. Light must create emotions and “involvement” of “viewers”, in this case, the guests who are willing to pay to have a special experience for themselves.

How to design and enjoy?

In addition to spatial, architectural, or interior designs, lighting is considered an important factor to evoke and perfect the emotions that the hotel or resort wants to create. Each hotel or resort brand has its own design requirements, depending on the brand characteristics, location, and local culture. In the case of luxury products, investors often aim for efficiency and effectiveness rather than cost savings.

In everyday life, with the need for food, we often say that the basic need is to eat enough nutrition (to be both full and have enough nutrients to grow healthily), then to eat delicious food (dishes made from good ingredients, grown and cared for naturally, minimizing toxic substances during the care process), then to eat sophisticatedly (dishes made from rare ingredients, cooked and presented in a sophisticated or lavish style). – extravagance).

Lighting can also be understood in the same way!

Within the scope of this article, we are not talking about substandard lighting, that is, not bright enough to serve needs, or too bright to create an unpleasant feeling, causing harm to the eyes, nerves, and emotions.

nA hotel with satisfactory lighting needs to ensure standard lighting (serves the right function, is bright enough, does not cause discomfort).

In a more high-end hotel, the lighting is not only correct and sufficient, but there must also be harmony between the interior spaces. The lighting designer needs to create appropriate contrast in the space. To put it simply, “it’s pleasing to the eye”.

Lighting is arranged with accents and different colors, creating diverse and interesting spaces. Light tones (warm or cold, choose color temperature) need to be reasonable depending on the architecture and interior. Light is skillfully handled, through the arrangement of projection angle and direction, to highlight beautiful materials, such as the shiny surface of stone tiles, the warmth of wood, or the softness of fabric. A light source of good quality (e.g. high color rendering) will clearly highlight decorative colors, such as paintings, carpets, and decorations. That is one of the ways to improve the quality of hotel and resort lighting to a more advanced level.
