A dolphin suddenly appeared near shore in the private beach area of the new Alma Resort Cam Ranh last Tuesday (June 16).
The adult dolphin, about 3.5 meters long, washed ashore and swam close to Alma beach for about 5 minutes. According to Mr. Nguyen Ngoc Tan, Alma’s rescue worker, who returned video and shared on social networks, said the fish may have strayed from the school, drifted along the current to shore alone and appeared to be slightly injured. The fish was very brave and not at all afraid when Mr. Tan and his two colleagues, Nguyen Trung Phi and Vo Thanh Nhon, approached him on a jet-ski.
Mr. Tan said: “When the resort guests saw a strange creature, they were a bit scared and left the beach. But when we announced it was a dolphin, they calmed down and seemed interested. It’s not easy to have the opportunity to swim in clear blue water with dolphins like that.”
The Alma rescue team immediately notified the resort manager, but only a few minutes later the dolphin found its way back to the ocean. They also spoke with many wildlife research and conservation groups, including the Center for Biodiversity and Endangered Species Conservation.
It is very rare for a dolphin to swim so close to the shore. All the tourists who witnessed it were very happy and felt lucky to be able to see the fish with their own eyes. People who watched the video that Mr. Tan shared were also extremely interested. The video has received more than 40,000 views and nearly 400 shares.
Mr. Herbert Laubichler-Pichler, General Director of Alma Resort excitedly said: “Recently there have been a few groups of dolphins appearing near Nha Trang beach, but we have never seen a dolphin appear so close to shore. Maybe because the environment is fresh after the social distancing period, this phenomenon has occurred.”
Alma Resort is a new resort on the Cam Ranh peninsula, with full international-class amenities, suitable for long vacations for the whole family.
