Standard Chartered Bank raises Vietnam’s GDP growth forecast for 2026 to 9.5%

As Vietnam’s economy is on the rise, Standard Chartered has raised its GDP growth forecast for 2026 to 9.5%.

Standard Chartered Bank has raised Vietnam’s economic growth forecast for 2026 to 9.5%, a significant increase compared to the previous estimate of 7.2%. This adjustment comes after Vietnam’s economy achieved a strong performance in the first half of the year, with key growth sectors continuing to maintain momentum.

Furthermore, the bank expects this positive trend to continue until 2027, forecasting GDP growth to reach 11%. This adjustment marks one of the most significant forecast increases the bank has made for Vietnam recently.

In parallel with this increased economic growth forecast, Standard Chartered has lowered its inflation forecasts for 2026 and 2027 to 4.4% and 3.3%, respectively. This forecast reduction comes as the bank predicts price pressure will continue to decline. Therefore, the State Bank of Vietnam is expected to keep policy interest rates unchanged, maintaining a balance between supporting economic growth and ensuring macroeconomic stability.

According to Tim Leelahaphan, senior economist in charge of Vietnam and Thailand at Standard Chartered, Vietnam has demonstrated remarkable resilience and adaptation in the first half of 2026. Growth exceeded expectations, mainly thanks to the strong recovery of the processing industry, services and investment, as well as the positive impact of policy measures to promote growth.

Despite current global economic uncertainties and inflation risks, Vietnam enters the second half of the year with a solid foundation. Stable domestic demand, continued investment in infrastructure, enhanced production capacity and ongoing economic restructuring are expected to create a balanced and sustainable growth model. These factors are forecast to support the country’s long-term development goals.

With growth forecast adjusted to 9.5% for 2026, Standard Chartered is one of the most optimistic international organizations about Vietnam’s economic future. Other international financial organizations also agree with this positive outlook. Growing confidence in the resilience and prospects of the Vietnamese economy underscores the positive direction the country is heading, despite varying forecasts. Key factors supporting this economic expansion include a recovery in domestic demand, sustained investment flows, growth-enhancing policies and accelerated infrastructure development. However, external uncertainties still require careful monitoring to ensure sustainable growth.
