Sofitel Legend Metropole Hà Nội phối hợp cùng The Muse Artspace tổ chức trưng bày "Phía sau Đông Dương”.
Inspired by the question of what follows after Indochina fine art, the exhibition “Behind Indochina” does not look at Indochina as the end of history but looks at the next generation of artists – those who seek the roots of Vietnamese culture to create their own artistic language and express those values with a modern spirit.

Display brings together the works of three artists Phan Cam Thuong, Ly Truc Son and Do Thi Kim Doan, typical names of Vietnamese contemporary art
Taking place at the hotel’s Opera Wing lobby from August 17 to October 8, the exhibition brings together three artists Phan Cam Thuong, Ly Truc Son and Do Thi Kim Doan, typical names of Vietnamese contemporary art with three distinct artistic perspectives and practices.
Curator of the show, Ms. Van Vi shared: “The three artists meet at one common point: the ability to transform Vietnamese cultural values into a visual language of the present.”
As the most influential artist and cultural researcher in Vietnam with many valuable research projects over the past two decades, Phan Cam Thuong brings a set of lacquer paintings inspired by ancient Vietnamese culture, evoking a primitive beauty where cultural memories are filtered through images, materials and visual rhythms.

The exhibition “Behind Indochina” takes place at the Opera Wing hall of Metropole Hanoi from August 17 to October 8, 2026.
Meanwhile, Ly Truc Son, leader of the Son ta Vietnam group and an artist who has worked in France and Germany for many years, developed a unique abstract painting language after adopting the spirit of Indochina aesthetics. His works go beyond the limits of locality, bringing Vietnamese painting closer to the flow of modern art.
With nearly three decades of working with lacquer, Do Thi Kim Doan introduces the series of works “Garden Corner”, recreating the simple beauty of Vietnamese family life through images rich in emotion and depth.
As one of the highlights of the program “125 Years A Legend”, the exhibition contributes to honoring the inherited heritage of the Indochina period, while spreading the beauty of Vietnamese culture and art through a contemporary perspective to the international community and friends.
