When François Auguste Guerbois opened Les Bains in 1885, the space located on rue du Bourg l’Abbé in the Marais district quickly attracted writers, artists and the most prestigious and splendid figures of the Belle Époque period. For more than a century later, this Haussmann architectural style building has fully reflected the city’s cultural development, from being the place where great writer Marcel Proust soaked in sulfur baths, to the stage where music icon Prince gave a legendary impromptu performance.

Nightlife has long been at the core of Les Bains’ identity. When this space was reborn as an underground nightclub called Les Bains Douches in 1878, the high-contrast designs of legendary designer Philippe Starck, typically the black and white checkerboard patterned dance floor, gave this place a unique and extremely impressive identity. More than just a party gathering place, this place has become a familiar meeting place for the fashion world and a true creative playground, hosting recording sessions by the band Joy Division, and welcoming famous names such as David Bowie, Kate Moss, Andy Warhol and Karl Lagerfeld.
