New look of Jaquet Droz Grande Seconde Quantième

The iconic watch model for the Jaquet Droz brand, Grande Seconde Quantième has added a new watch line with a size of only 41mm, marking another step forward in Jaquet Droz’s journey to conquer the pinnacle of art and aesthetics.

After three centuries, Grande Seconde still shows strong vitality and is considered one of the most unique “machines” in the luxury watch industry. Designed by Pierre Jaquet-Droz nearly three centuries ago, the Grande Seconde is an unmistakable work.

Not disappointing the expectations of watch collectors and enthusiasts, Jaquet Droz has brought new approaches to this work with more sophisticatedly designed details to suit the new size of the watch. This has turned the Grande Seconde Quantième into a true work of art, made from painstaking creativity in design as well as meticulousness in manufacturing, not simply a miniature version of the previous watch model.

Almost all details are put on the table for designers and manufacturers to discuss and review. The idea of designing the watch comes from shrinking the case size to the current 41mm. This version is designed to be thinner to reduce the weight of the watch as well as create a harmonious balance on the overall  watch with the new diameter. This is also a factor that helps maintain the standard proportions of the watch as well as breathe new, contemporary breath into the already famous traditional design.

New manufacturing techniques have been researched and developed to serve this special collection. Impressing with a Grand Feu enamel dial, a traditional Jaquet Droz “signature” technique that has been applied for more than 200 years, Jaquet Droz has introduced a series of versions of the 41mm Grande Seconde Quantième with diverse colors such as beige, blue, burgundy or anthracite. Each color is handcrafted and is the result of in-depth research on enamel powder as well as manual heating techniques to temper the exact color shades desired by the artisans.

In addition to the above four colors, Jaquet Droz also launches a matte black dial version, a gray sandblasted Titanium version and a silver sandblasted version. In addition, the date viewing mechanism placed at 6 o’clock with the number display border made from 18 carat red gold is also a delicate highlight that creates the depth of this piece. With interesting color variations in this 41mm Grande Seconde Quantième collection, fans can freely choose for themselves one of seven versions released by Jaquet Droz at the same time.

Each version will have its own style to meet the tastes of each collector. The first four versions have a classic style exuding from the case design to the encrusted details and the red gold flywheel and alligator leather strap, creating harmony and elegance when combined with the beige Grand Feu enamel dial. The remaining three versions convey a more modern language with elements such as smooth calf leather straps, Rhodium-plated details or encrusted with contrasting colored materials.

All of these versions have a design that exposes the balance wheels to optimize operation and not obstruct the view of the movement with a power reserve of up to 68 hours.

Like other contemporary works by Jaquet Droz, this work is equipped with a silicon mainspring to withstand the effects of external environmental temperatures, magnetic fields and unfortunate collisions. With the seven new models of this collection, Jaquet Droz is creating an attractive 21st century version of the Grande Seconde with an innovative, timeless design style that traces the changes of time through each period.
